TLDR Chinese patients have fewer hair follicles than Caucasians, and transplanting hair at 40% of normal density works for natural-looking hairlines.
The study examined the distribution of follicular units (FUs) in the scalps of 50 normal and 50 bald Chinese adults, as well as the outcomes of hairline reconstruction in 100 bald patients. It found that normal Chinese scalps had an average of 71.78 FUs/cm² and 137.08 hairs/cm², with bald scalps having slightly fewer FUs at 68.07 FUs/cm². Hairline reconstruction involved implanting 700-1000 FUs at a density of 30 FUs/cm², which is about 40% of the normal hair density. The study concluded that Chinese patients have fewer FUs than Caucasians, and the implantation density used was effective for creating natural-looking hairlines in bald Chinese patients.
