TLDR Chinese scalps have fewer hair clusters than Caucasians, and transplanting 30 clusters per square centimeter creates a natural-looking hairline for bald Chinese individuals.
The study examined the characteristics of follicular units (FUs) in the Chinese population, involving 50 normal adults, 50 bald adults, and 100 bald patients undergoing hairline reconstruction. It found that normal Chinese scalps had an average of 71.78 FUs/cm² and 137.08 hairs/cm², with 50.29% being two-hair FUs. Bald patients had a slightly lower average of 68.07 FUs/cm². For hairline reconstruction, 700-1000 FUs were transplanted at a density of 30 FUs/cm², achieving 40% of normal hair density. The study concluded that Chinese patients had fewer FUs than Caucasians and that a density of 30 FUs/cm² was adequate for a natural-looking frontal hairline in bald Chinese patients.
