TLDR HAIR-AN syndrome mainly affects obese women and can be improved with early diagnosis and treatment using insulin-sensitizing agents.
HAIR-AN syndrome is a distinct endocrinopathy in women of reproductive age, characterized by severe insulin resistance, hyperandrogenism, and acanthosis nigricans. This systematic review analyzed five studies and found that the syndrome predominantly affects obese women, with the severity of symptoms correlating with metabolic dysfunction. Treatment with insulin-sensitizing agents like incretin and metformin showed improvements in hormonal and metabolic profiles. The study emphasizes the importance of early diagnosis and multidisciplinary management to reduce long-term metabolic complications.
