TLDR The new hydrogel dressing with natural molecules helps heal wounds faster and improves skin repair.
The research article discusses the development of a novel "all-in-one" chitosan (CS)-based hydrogel wound dressing, which is functionalized by introducing drug-food small molecules self-assembled cinnamaldehyde-tannic acid-zinc acetate nanospheres (CA-TA-ZA NSs) to the 3D network structures of CS. This hydrogel has excellent antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and oxidative stress damage reduction abilities. It can rapidly gelate at wound sites and completely cover irregular wounds. The hydrogel can clean the wound microenvironment, induce skin tissue remodeling, promote blood vessel repair and hair follicle regeneration, restore the immune system back to normal physiological activity, and accelerate wound healing. This study provides a new perspective for the design of advanced functional materials with potential applications in the biomedical field.
