TLDR Graphene-based hair dye is a safe, durable, and effective alternative to traditional black hair dyes.
Huang and co-workers developed a novel hair-dyeing method using water-based formulations of graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) to replace toxic pigments in black hair dyes. This approach provided durable, uniform coatings with superior antistatic properties and efficient heat and electrostatic charge dissipation. The dyeing process involved chitosan and ascorbic acid to enhance adhesion and control darkening. The resulting graphene dye was non-reactive, non-invasive, and retained its properties after 30 washes, offering a permanent coloring effect. Additionally, the dye could create gradient shades and protect hair from UV damage, making it a promising alternative in the cosmetics market.
