TLDR Ginsenoside CK, found in Panax ginseng, can prevent hair loss by controlling certain growth pathways and promoting hair follicle development.
The study conducted on 50 male C57BL/6 mice found that ginsenoside CK, a component of Panax ginseng, can inhibit androgenetic alopecia (AGA), a common type of hair loss. Ginsenoside CK was found to regulate the Wnt/β‐catenin and p53 signaling pathways, which are involved in hair growth and follicle development. After 4 weeks of treatment, AGA mice showed significant hair regrowth, increased number and size of hair follicles, and improved testicular tissue inflammation. Ginsenoside CK also increased serum levels of VEGF, promoting tissue development and cell regeneration, while reducing TGF-β and T levels, relieving excessive androgen accumulation. It was also found to inhibit apoptosis of hair follicle cells, promoting their proliferation. The study suggests that ginsenoside CK could be a potential treatment for AGA.
