TLDR Women with nonclassic congenital adrenal hyperplasia experience more sexual dysfunction and distress.
The study examined sexual function in 35 women with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), specifically comparing 17 with classic CAH (C-CAH) and 18 with nonclassic CAH (NC-CAH). It found that women with NC-CAH had significantly lower orgasm scores and overall lower sexual function, as well as higher sexual distress. Clinical signs of hyperandrogenism, such as acne and hirsutism, were more common in the NC-CAH group and were associated with both lower sexual function and higher cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors. The study concluded that NC-CAH is associated with more sexual dysfunction and distress, emphasizing the need for early diagnosis and treatment, particularly for those with NC-CAH. However, the study had limitations, including a small sample size and the absence of a control group, suggesting that further research with larger cohorts is needed to confirm these findings.
