TLDR Different types of fibroblasts play specific roles in wound healing and cancer, which could help improve treatments.
This review highlights the heterogeneity and functions of fibroblasts in wound healing, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and melanoma, using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq). It identifies distinct fibroblast populations with specific gene expression profiles and roles in tissue repair and tumor progression. In wound healing, fibroblasts are categorized into populations that influence regeneration or scarring. In cancers, various cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) subtypes are linked to tumor growth, metastasis, and immune interactions. The study underscores the potential of targeting specific fibroblast populations and pathways to improve therapeutic strategies for wound healing and cancer treatment.
