TLDR A cat in Brazil had severe skin issues worsened by improper treatment.
An adult male feline in Santa Catarina, Brazil, was diagnosed with demodicosis caused by Demodex cati, along with mycotic dermatitis and secondary bacterial infection, after presenting with severe pruritus, alopecia, hyperkeratosis, abrasions, and erythema. Initial treatments included cephalexin, prednisolone, selamectin, amitraz, and chlorhexidine baths, but the condition worsened. The treatment plan was adjusted to selamectin every 2 weeks, but the owner did not follow the revised regimen and reported using selamectin only every 30 days and discontinuing baths. The generalized presentation of the disease was likely due to pruritus from flea infestation, and no other comorbidities were associated with the demodicosis.
