TLDR Sarolaner effectively treated feline demodicosis in a cat.
This case report described the first successful oral treatment of feline demodicosis with sarolaner in Brazil. An adult cat, positive for feline leukemia virus and on glucocorticoid treatment, exhibited severe skin symptoms including intense itching, hyperkeratosis, lichenification, skin fragility, and symmetrical alopecia. Diagnosis was confirmed through skin scrapings, acetate tape impressions, and fecal examinations. Sarolaner was administered orally at 4 mg/kg, and skin evaluations were conducted at multiple intervals up to 28 days post-treatment. By day 21, no mites were observed, and there was notable improvement in skin fragility and partial hair regrowth, indicating the efficacy of sarolaner in treating feline demodicosis.
