TLDR A dog developed skin issues from too many steroids, but reducing steroids and using a specific treatment fixed the problems.
A 4-year-old female neutered Labrador retriever with hypoadrenocorticism developed calcinosis cutis and demodicosis due to high exogenous glucocorticoid supplementation. The dog presented with symmetrical alopecia, firm pale-yellow plaques, erythematous papules, and ulceration. Cytological examination confirmed calcinosis cutis, and skin scrapes revealed Demodex spp. Reducing glucocorticoids resolved the calcinosis cutis, and treatment with a fluralaner chewable tablet (Bravecto®) successfully treated the demodicosis.
