TLDR New tests detect finasteride and dutasteride in urine quickly and easily.
This paper discusses the development of two enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs) for detecting the presence of the 5α-reductase inhibitors finasteride and dutasteride in urine samples for doping control purposes. The ELISAs were found to have excellent sensitivity and were able to detect the drugs at low concentrations. The generic ELISA was able to detect both drugs and their metabolites in human urine samples with high recoveries. The ELISAs were found to be a rapid and simple alternative to chromatographic techniques for detecting the drugs in urine samples. The paper also discusses the excretion kinetics of dutasteride in urine.
