TLDR The new face mask with Eflornithine can potentially reduce facial hair growth and moisturize skin.
The study investigates the use of eflornithine hydrochloride (EFH)-loaded electrospun nanofibers as a potential face mask for treating hirsutism. The nanofibers, made from polyvinyl pyrrolidone and hyaluronic acid, showed high encapsulation efficiency (88 ± 7%) and rapid drug release (80% within 5 minutes). In vitro tests confirmed high cell viability (>90%) and low toxicity. In vivo tests on mice indicated a reduction in hair growth, with 50% of drug-treated mice showing noticeable hair growth by day 21, compared to 75% in the control group. These findings suggest that EFH-loaded nanofibers could be an effective and safe topical treatment for hirsutism.
