TLDR PRP therapy for hair loss is safe but its effectiveness is doubtful.
A prospective study on 50 patients with Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, an autologous preparation of plasma with a high concentration of platelets. Only 30 patients completed the study, and the majority (45%) were unsatisfied with the PRP therapy, with only 8 finding it satisfactory. Most patients did not show any significant change in hair growth after 3 months (72.2%) and even after 6 months (33.3%). Only 10 out of 30 showed excellent improvement after 6 months. Side effects included transient erythema, mild headache, and pain. The study concluded that while PRP therapy is safe, its efficacy in treating AGA is questionable and might be more effective when used with other treatments like minoxidil and finasteride.
