TLDR 5% minoxidil foam is a safe, effective treatment for male pattern hair loss, with increased hair count and few side effects.
In 2016, a study involving 17 male patients with male pattern hair loss found that 5% minoxidil topical foam was a safe and effective treatment. Participants applied the foam daily for 6 months, with 12 continuing for the full duration. The results showed a significant increase in average hair count at weeks 16 and 24. No serious side effects were reported, and the foam, free of propylene glycol, had fewer side effects than the 2% minoxidil topical solution. The study concluded that the 5% minoxidil foam was well-tolerated and consistent with previous research.
