TLDR Combining FUE with rb-bFGF and minoxidil is more effective and has fewer side effects than FUE alone for treating hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of combining follicle unit extraction (FUE) transplantation with recombinant bovine basic fibroblast growth factor (rb-bFGF) gel and minoxidil tincture in treating secondary cicatricial alopecia. It involved 100 patients, split into two groups of 50 each: one receiving only FUE and the other receiving FUE with rb-bFGF and minoxidil. Results showed that the combination treatment significantly reduced hair loss rates at 3 and 6 months post-surgery and improved hair survival rates and patient satisfaction at 12 months compared to FUE alone. The satisfaction rate was 94% in the combination group versus 74% in the FUE alone group. Additionally, the combination treatment resulted in fewer adverse effects, particularly a lower incidence of scarring at the donor site. Overall, the combination of FUE with rb-bFGF and minoxidil was more effective and had fewer side effects than FUE alone for treating cicatricial alopecia.
