Effects of Essential Oil from Coicis Semen on Hair Growth in Human Dermal Papilla Cells

    The study investigated the effects of essential oil from Coicis Semen (ECS) on the proliferation of human hair dermal papilla cells (HDPCs), which are crucial for hair growth and cycle regulation. Using MTT assay, cell cycle analysis, and western blot, the researchers found that ECS increased cell proliferation and the expression of hair growth-related proteins (IGF-1, Wnt, ERK, Akt) compared to the control groups treated with dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and minoxidil (MNXD). These findings suggested that ECS could be a potential treatment for alopecia by promoting the proliferation of HDPCs.
