TLDR Copper (II) albumin complex improves healing of severe burns by its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pain relief properties.
In the study conducted 11 years ago, 190 Sprague Dawely rats were used to evaluate the effects of copper (II) albumin complex on thermal wound healing. The rats were divided into three groups and treated with soft paraffin, moist exposed burn ointment (MEBO), or copper (II) albumin complex. The results showed that thermal injury significantly increased plasma levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), 5-hydroxy tryptamine (5-HT), and gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), and decreased total antioxidant capacity (TAC). However, treatment with copper (II) albumin complex and MEBO significantly decreased plasma levels of MDA and 5-HT and increased TAC. Notably, copper (II) albumin complex treatment was associated with a significant increase in plasma levels of GABA at the first and third day post-burn compared to the other treated groups. Furthermore, the application of copper (II) albumin complex enhanced the regeneration of epidermis and hair follicles. The study concluded that the topical application of copper (II) albumin complex improved healing signs of full thickness thermal burn due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and pain modulating effects.
