TLDR Platelet-rich plasma injections made hair thicker for both men and women, with a greater effect in women.
The study conducted on a small sample of 10 participants (7 men and 3 women) with an average age of 24.2 years in Pakistan found that platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections significantly increased hair diameter. Measurements taken before treatment and 6 months after the third PRP injection showed an overall increase in mean hair caliber from 37.3 µm to 52.3 µm. Men experienced an increase from 39.1 µm to 53.9 µm, while women saw an increase from 33.0 µm to 48.7 µm, representing a 27.5% increase in men and a 31.3% increase in women. The study concluded that PRP is effective in increasing hair diameter, with a more pronounced effect in women.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
