TLDR Platelet-rich plasma injections can effectively reduce hair thinning, especially in women.
The study titled "Autologous Platelet-Rich Plasma in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia: Results of a 54-Patient Prospective Study" involved 54 patients with androgenetic alopecia (35 men and 19 women). The study aimed to explore the efficacy and safety of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections into the scalp. The treatment protocol consisted of three sessions of injections at 3-month intervals. The results showed an increase in hair thickness 1 month after the first PRP injection, and a reduction in hair loss after 3 months. The improvement was progressively evident until the 12th month. The study found differences in hair growth/production between women and men, suggesting more efficacy in women. The safety profile of the treatment was satisfactory. Therefore, the study concluded that PRP injections are effective in reducing thinning of the scalp hair, particularly in women.
