TLDR DHEA therapy improved pubic hair growth and psychological well-being in young females with adrenal insufficiency.
This study investigated the effects of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) therapy on pubic hair growth and psychological well-being in 23 adolescent girls and young women with central adrenal insufficiency. Participants, aged 13 to 26, were randomly assigned to receive either 25 mg of DHEA or a placebo for 12 months. The study found that DHEA treatment significantly improved pubic hair growth and psychological scores, including depression and anxiety, compared to the placebo. DHEA was well tolerated, and the results suggested that DHEA therapy could be beneficial for young females with severe DHEA deficiency, improving both physical appearance and psychological well-being.
