TLDR Researchers developed a reliable way to measure hormones in urine, showing that a baldness treatment doesn't change hormone levels.
In 2019, researchers developed a reliable method for measuring androgens and prostaglandins in human urine using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). This method, which included solid-phase and liquid-liquid extraction, enzyme hydrolysis, and chemical derivatization, showed high recoveries (81.0 to 102.9%), low limits of quantification (0.01 to 2 ng/mL), and excellent linearity (correlation coefficient > 0.99). It was tested on urine samples from 10 male pattern baldness patients undergoing finasteride treatment and 10 healthy controls. The results indicated that finasteride did not significantly alter urinary levels of androgens and prostaglandins, suggesting its effectiveness in treating male pattern baldness. This method could be useful for studying androgens and prostaglandins in various inflammatory diseases.

community Wouldn’t this nuclear stack make it almost impossible to lose hair?

      in Research/Science  66 upvotes 3 months ago
The conversation discusses a hair loss treatment regimen involving dutasteride, pyrilutamide, oral minoxidil, and microneedling, with the aim of suppressing DHT and stimulating hair growth. Users debate the effectiveness and potential side effects of these treatments, noting that individual results may vary and that no treatment is foolproof.

community Hair loss causes are still a myth.

The conversation discusses the complexity of hair loss causes, suggesting that DHT sensitivity alone doesn't fully explain it. Treatments mentioned include finasteride and dutasteride.

community Creatine is the opposite of minoxidil !

Creatine may counteract minoxidil's hair growth effects by closing potassium ATP channels, potentially leading to hair loss in predisposed individuals. Despite anecdotal reports, there is no conclusive evidence linking creatine to hair loss.

community A concise, easy-to-understand post on Androgenic Alopecia theory and its practical applications

The mechanism of Androgenic Alopecia and practical applications of treatments like Minoxidil, Finasteride, RU58841, dermarolling, scalp massages, anti-fungals, progesterone, estrogen, PPAR-γ activators, reducing oxidative stress, and scalp exercises. It explains why DHT is important in AA and how other factors might be involved such as hypoxia, increased DKK-1 expression, morphological changes to the scalp, skull growth during childhood/puberty, and blood flow.
