TLDR Substances from dental stem cells might help treat hair loss.
The study explored the use of conditioned media (CM) from dental pulp stem cells (SHED-CM) and hair follicle stem cells (HFSC-CM) to promote hair growth as a potential treatment for alopecia. In vitro, SHED and HFSCs cultured in STK2 media showed better growth characteristics and secreted more positive hair growth-regulatory factors than those in DMEM-KO media. In vivo, SHED-CM induced hair growth in mice faster than HFSC-CM, with dark patches appearing in 8-12 days, although both led to almost complete hair coverage in a similar timeframe. The study concluded that SHED-CM, particularly when prepared in STK2 media at passage 3, has potential as a therapeutic tool for hair loss. The in vivo experiments involved 9 mice per stem cell source, with additional groups for control and comparison.
