TLDR Crisaborole may help regrow hair in children with alopecia areata.
This case report explores the use of crisaborole, a topical PDE4 inhibitor, as a treatment for pediatric alopecia areata (AA). A 10-year-old girl with AA, unresponsive to topical corticosteroids, showed significant hair regrowth after two weeks of crisaborole treatment, with full regrowth confirmed at three months. Crisaborole's potential benefits include reducing inflammation, enhancing blood flow to hair follicles, and promoting follicular stem cell activity. Its minimal systemic absorption makes it a promising alternative to corticosteroids for children. However, further studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up are necessary to confirm its efficacy.
