The study investigated the effects of ceramide on stress-induced senescence of dermal papilla cells (DPCs), focusing on growth factors like ERK/Akt and Wnt/β-catenin pathways. It was found that ceramide decreased Akt phosphorylation and significantly upregulated ERK phosphorylation in H2O2-treated DPCs. Additionally, ceramide increased Wnt5a and β-catenin mRNA levels and upregulated Wnt10b expression in these cells. The results suggested that ceramide might play a role in maintaining hair follicles in environments of senescence, such as aging or damage, and could be useful in delaying hair senescence.
