TLDR Ceramide may help delay hair aging by restoring stressed hair cells.
The study investigated the effects of ceramide on stress-induced senescence in dermal papilla cells (DPCs), focusing on growth factors like ERK/Akt and Wnt/β-catenin pathways. It was found that ceramide decreased Akt phosphorylation and significantly increased ERK phosphorylation in H2O2-treated DPCs. Additionally, ceramide alone increased Wnt5a and β-catenin mRNA levels and upregulated Wnt10b expression in stressed DPCs. These findings suggested that ceramide could play a role in maintaining hair follicles in aging or stress conditions, potentially serving as an adjunctive material to delay hair senescence.
