TLDR Ceramide treatment can strengthen and protect hair from damage.
The study explored the role of structural lipids, specifically within the cell membrane complex (CMC) of human hair, which are crucial for maintaining cohesion between hair cells and providing a barrier against diffusion. The research focused on the vulnerability of these lipids to physical and chemical damage and examined the effects of treating hair with a type II ceramide, a synthesized acyl derivative of sphinganine. The findings suggested that this ceramide treatment could enhance hair protection and conditioning by reinforcing the CMC, thereby improving the hair's resistance to damage.
