TLDR Ceramide-rich liposomes can effectively repair and strengthen damaged hair.
The study investigated the use of internal wool lipids (IWL) structured as liposomes to restore damaged hair. Lipids in human hair, such as ceramides, are crucial for maintaining hair integrity. Chemically treated hair showed differences in lipid composition compared to untreated hair. Applying IWL liposomes to damaged hair resulted in lipid recovery, increased resistance to breakage, and improved cohesion between the hair matrix and filaments, likely due to the restoration of hydrogen bonds and electrostatic forces.
