Effect of Injectable Calcium Alginate-Amelogenin Hydrogel on Macrophage Polarization and Promotion of Jaw Bone Osteogenesis
July 2023
TLDR The hydrogel helps bone growth and healing in jaw and facial defects.
The study explores the effects of an injectable calcium alginate-amelogenin hydrogel (CA+AM) on macrophage polarization and jaw bone osteogenesis. The hydrogel demonstrated good biosafety, structural stability, and mechanical strength, effectively promoting macrophage polarization towards the M2 phenotype, which is linked to anti-inflammatory responses and bone healing. In vitro, CA+AM enhanced the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, while in vivo, it significantly reduced bleeding and alveolar ridge resorption in a rat model, indicating its potential for bone regeneration and tissue repair. The study involved 30 healthy male SD rats and showed that CA+AM hydrogel could be a promising material for bone regeneration and wound healing in dental applications.
