TLDR Botulinum toxin might help with some scalp conditions, but more research is needed to confirm its effectiveness and safety.
The systematic review "Botulinum Toxin for Scalp Conditions" analyzed 24 original articles, including 12 case reports, 9 clinical trials, and 3 case series, involving 309 patients with scalp conditions treated with botulinum toxin (BTX). The conditions with the most substantial data supporting the clinical efficacy of BTX were androgenetic alopecia, craniofacial hyperhidrosis, and scalp hyperseborrhea. However, the quality of evidence is highly variable and, for many conditions, limited to small observational studies. The review concludes that BTX may be a promising therapeutic option for various scalp conditions, but future studies are needed to better understand its efficacy and safety.
