TLDR Botulinum toxin type A injections are not effective for severe alopecia areata.
The study investigated the safety and efficacy of intradermal Botulinum toxin type A (BTXA) injections for treating alopecia areata (AA) in seven patients. Each patient received 10 U of BTXA injections three times. The results showed that one patient experienced spontaneous recovery, one had aggravated AA, and the remaining patients saw no change in their condition. The study concluded that BTXA injections were not effective as an alternative treatment for recalcitrant AA, though further research on its efficacy for mild to moderate AA was suggested.
