TLDR Minoxidil is safe and effective for treating early male pattern baldness.
In a 24-week open-label study conducted by the Belgian Topical Minoxidil Study Group, the safety and efficacy of a 2% minoxidil solution were assessed in 149 male patients with early male pattern alopecia. Participants applied 1 ml of the solution twice daily. The study found statistically significant increases in hair counts from baseline to week 24. Nearly 47% of patients reported achieving cosmetically acceptable hair growth, and investigators agreed for 44% of the cases. The treatment was well-tolerated, with minimal changes in vital signs and no significant abnormalities in cardiac assessments. Two patients withdrew due to dermatologic issues. The study confirmed the safe and effective use of minoxidil for treating early male pattern alopecia.
