Antioxidant Constituents of Hops (Humulus Lupulus L.) as Functional Raw Materials for Cosmetic Applications

Humulus lupulus L. (hops) is recognized for its antioxidant properties due to its flavonoid and polyphenol content, making it a promising ingredient for cosmetics. This study assessed the antioxidant capacity of hop extracts and their incorporation into cosmetic formulations. Although the hop extract showed limited free radical scavenging activity, it maintained substantial antioxidant activity when used in cosmetic emulsions, demonstrating successful incorporation and stability. In vivo studies showed a 10% reduction in erythema after three weeks, supporting the use of hops in cosmetics for skin prone to irritation.
