TLDR The extract of Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. has limited antioxidant properties and cannot prevent uric acid synthesis.
The study evaluated the antioxidant activity, phenolic content, and xanthine oxidase inhibition of the ethanolic extract of Guazuma ulmifolia Lam. (mutamba). The extract showed an intermediate phenolic content of 122.16 mg of gallic acid per gram but demonstrated low antioxidant activity in DPPH and ABTS assays. It was unable to inhibit xanthine oxidase in vitro, indicating it could not prevent uric acid synthesis. Despite its traditional use in treating hair loss and other ailments, the extract's antioxidant properties were limited according to the methods used in this study.
