TLDR Prunus africana bark has the highest antioxidant activity and phenolic content.
The study examined the phytochemical composition and antioxidant activities of extracts from Prunus africana bark, Leea indica leaves, and Paullinia pinnata leaves. Prunus africana bark showed the highest total phenolic and flavonoid content, contributing to its strong antioxidant activity, as assessed by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays. The presence of bioactive compounds like alkaloids, flavonoids, and phenolic acids, including methyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid, supports the potential health benefits of these plants in reducing oxidative stress-related diseases. The study suggests further research to validate their therapeutic applications.
