TLDR The leaf extract of Leea indica may reduce inflammation, dissolve blood clots, and promote hair growth.
The study explored the effects of the n-hexane fraction from the methanol extract of Leea indica (NFLI) leaves on inflammation, blood clot dissolution, and hair growth. NFLI showed significant anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting hemolysis and protein denaturation. It also displayed thrombolytic activity in a concentration-dependent manner. When applied topically to mice, NFLI at 1% concentration notably increased hair length, with the highest hair regrowth percentages observed on days 7, 14, and 21 (81.24%, 65.60%, and 62.5%, respectively). Additionally, an in silico study indicated that certain phytochemicals in NFLI could bind to PGD2 synthase, an enzyme implicated in hair loss, suggesting that L. indica may be an effective natural treatment for alopecia. However, further research is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.
