TLDR Lysozyme might help mouse hair grow.
The study investigated the effects of lysozyme, an antimicrobial peptide, on hair follicle growth in vitro using micro-dissected mouse vibrissae follicles. Lysozyme was found to be primarily located in the dermal papilla (DP) and dermal sheath regions of the hair follicle. Treatment with 5-10μg/ml lysozyme over 3 days resulted in increased hair shaft production and significant proliferation of matrix keratinocytes. Additionally, lysozyme treatment enhanced the hair-inductive capacity of DP cells, as evidenced by increased levels of alkaline phosphatase and lymphoid enhancer factor 1. These findings suggest that lysozyme can promote hair follicle growth by stimulating DP cells.
