TLDR Golden oyster mushroom extract may protect skin cells from aging by its antioxidant properties.
The document reports on the antiaging effects of Pleurotus cornucopiae extract (PCE), commonly known as the golden oyster mushroom. The study aimed to evaluate PCE's potential as an antiaging agent for skin care. The antioxidant activities of PCE were assessed through various assays, including DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging assays, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assay, and ORAC assay. Additionally, the protective effects of PCE against oxidative stress induced by H₂O₂ on human dermal fibroblasts were evaluated. The results showed that PCE exhibited dose-dependent radical scavenging and cytoprotective activity against oxidative stress. Furthermore, PCE prevented the increase of metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) and the decrease of type I collagen (COL1A1) induced by H₂O₂. These findings suggest that PCE can protect human skin fibroblasts from H₂O₂-induced damage through its antioxidant activity, indicating its potential use as an antiaging agent for the skin.
