TLDR α-mangostin nanoparticles improved acne with minimal irritation.
The study investigated α-mangostin nanoparticles for acne treatment by targeting sebaceous glands via hair follicles. Cellulose-based nanoparticles with 50% α-mangostin loading were prepared, showing anti-P. acnes activity and sustained release in synthetic sebum. Minimal skin irritation was observed in a 2-week test with 20 volunteers. A 4-week split-face study with 10 acne patients showed significant improvement in acne severity and inflammatory lesions on the treated side. The results indicated effective entrapment and retention of nanoparticles at hair follicles, suggesting their potential for targeted acne treatment.
