TLDR Alpha-ketoglutarate protects rabbit skin cells from oxidative damage by activating a specific cell pathway.
The study explores the protective effects of alpha-ketoglutaric acid (AKG) on rabbit dermal papilla cells (DPCs) under oxidative stress caused by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). AKG was shown to significantly enhance cell viability, reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, and maintain mitochondrial membrane potential. It also modulated apoptosis-related proteins, increased antioxidant enzyme activity, and reduced inflammation, primarily through the ERK/Nrf2 signaling pathway. The study involved a sample size of 3 for most assays, with 12 samples for cell viability tests. These findings suggest AKG's potential as a therapeutic agent for oxidative stress-related damage in hair follicle cells.
