TLDR Researchers developed a sensitive method to measure minoxidil in various products with high accuracy.
The study investigated the electrochemical behavior of minoxidil, finding that it exhibits a single 2-electron irreversible reduction wave at pH 3, which is contrary to previous findings. This reduction wave diminishes with increasing pH and disappears at pH 7.2. Researchers developed a sensitive method using adsorptive cathodic stripping voltammetry at a hanging mercury drop electrode for quantifying minoxidil. The optimal conditions for minoxidil accumulation were determined to be in 0.1 M Britton–Robinson buffer at pH 2.0, with specific parameters for accumulation potential, time, scan rate, and pulse height. This method was successfully applied to measure minoxidil in pharmaceutical topical solutions, as well as in illegal shampoo and cream products, with mean recoveries of 99.8%, 97.8%, and 96.7%, and relative standard deviations (RSD) of 0.86%, 1.24%, and 1.89%, respectively.

The conversation is about choosing the right concentration of tretinoin cream to enhance the absorption of minoxidil for hair loss treatment. The options discussed are 0.5, 0.05, 0.25, and 1mg/g concentrations.

community I always hear the advice to reduce scalp inflammation. What are some non-steroidal ways to reduce inflammation?

in Treatment  13 upvotes 7 months ago
Non-steroidal ways to reduce scalp inflammation include using topical melatonin, urea shampoo, Zyrtec, turmeric with black pepper, omega-3 supplements, a self-made topical solution with cetirizine, melatonin, and piroctone olamine, ketoconazole shampoo, witch hazel shampoo, tacrolimus, and lifestyle changes like a healthy diet and regular exercise. Some users also mentioned unconventional methods like infrared light therapy and a carnivore diet.

community Minoxidil Frequency: Once or Twice?

in Minoxidil  74 upvotes 3 days ago
The user is using 5% topical minoxidil twice daily and 1.25 mg oral finasteride for hair thinning at the temples. They are considering switching to once-daily minoxidil due to scalp flakiness and future time constraints.

community Do you think oral minoxidil will become the standard for hair loss in 2026?

in Minoxidil  143 upvotes 5 days ago
Oral minoxidil is considered more convenient and effective for some users, with positive results reported, but concerns about side effects and availability persist. Finasteride remains a standard treatment, while some users explore combinations with other treatments like dutasteride and laser devices.
