TLDR A 3D cell model can rejuvenate stem cells to improve wound healing.
The study demonstrated that a 3D co-culture model using endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) and late-passage adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) could reverse the senescence of ASCs and enhance their therapeutic potential for wound healing. By using a hyaluronic acid gel and a 10:1 ratio of ASCs to ECFCs, the co-culture restored ASC morphology, phenotype, and differentiation capacity, and increased cytokine secretion. In a mouse model of chronic injury, the co-culture showed improved healing and angiogenic potential, suggesting a promising approach for regenerative therapies.
