TLDR An extra-strength marine protein supplement helped increase hair growth and decrease hair shedding in women with thinning hair.
In a study from 2015 involving 60 women with self-perceived thinning hair, an oral marine protein supplement (MPS) was found to be effective in promoting hair growth and reducing hair shedding. The participants were divided into two groups, with 30 women receiving the MPS and 30 receiving a placebo, both taken twice daily. Results showed a significant increase in terminal hair count and a reduction in hair shedding in the MPS group compared to the placebo group. Quality of life and self-assessment scores also improved in the MPS group. No adverse events were reported, suggesting that MPS is a safe and effective treatment for women experiencing temporary hair thinning.
