In a study conducted 30 years ago, 40 young males with hereditary androgenic alopecia were randomly assigned to receive either ViviScal®, a new food supplement with marine extracts and silica, or a fish extract. After 6 months, the ViviScal® group showed a 38% increase in non-vellus hair, compared to a 2% increase in the fish extract group. Additionally, 95% of the ViviScal® group showed both clinical and histological improvement, while none in the fish extract group did. The study concluded that ViviScal® was a highly effective treatment for androgenic alopecia in young males. However, the fish extract, known to affect hair condition and growth in females, did not impact androgenic hair loss in young males.
