    GlossaryTriglycerides (Serum TG)

molecules storing energy as fat in your blood

Triglycerides, also known as triacylglycerols (TAGs), are a type of fat found in your blood. They are composed of three fatty acid molecules attached to a glycerol backbone. When you eat, your body converts any calories it doesn't need to use right away into triglycerides, which are stored in fat cells. High levels of triglycerides can increase the risk of heart disease and are often associated with conditions like obesity and metabolic syndrome.
