TLDR There's no significant link between blood fat levels and male pattern baldness.
In 2020, a study was conducted on 80 male patients, 40 with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) and 40 without, to compare their blood lipid profiles. The researchers specifically examined serum triglyceride (TG) and high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels. The results showed no significant difference in these levels between the two groups, leading to the conclusion that there was no significant relationship between blood lipid profiles and AGA in male patients. The study also discussed the controversial link between AGA and coronary heart disease due to the relationship with metabolic syndrome, suggesting the need for more research with larger patient samples.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Male pattern baldness is linked to health risks and should be treated medically. Finasteride is effective and should be insurance-covered.

Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) impacts various skin conditions, including Androgenetic alopecia and seborrheic dermatitis, by causing overactivity in sebaceous glands. Topical medications Tacrolimus and Clobetasol can reduce these inflammatory conditions, and treatments like RU58841, Minoxidil, and Finasteride may also be beneficial.
