    infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2

    COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus Disease 2019, is an infectious disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. It primarily spreads through respiratory droplets and can lead to symptoms ranging from mild respiratory issues to severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome. The disease was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China, and has since led to a global pandemic, prompting widespread public health measures and the development of vaccines.
