The oral mucosa, also known as the oral lining or mouth lining, is the moist tissue that lines the inside of the mouth. It consists of a stratified squamous epithelium layer and an underlying connective tissue called the lamina propria. This tissue serves as a barrier to protect against mechanical damage, pathogens, and toxins, and plays a role in sensation and secretion.
