abnormal growth of skin cells, often due to UV radiation

Skin cancer, also known as cutaneous carcinoma, is a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the skin. It is primarily caused by excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or tanning beds. The three main types are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma, with melanoma being the most aggressive and potentially deadly. Early detection and treatment are crucial for a better prognosis.
