The Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as Human herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4), is a common virus that infects most people at some point in their lives. It is best known for causing infectious mononucleosis, often referred to as "mono" or the "kissing disease," and is also associated with certain types of cancer, such as Burkitt's lymphoma and nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
